The #E4.1 Dissemination Workshop

The #E4.1 Dissemination Workshop aimed to disseminate the findings and experiences from the AMELIA project and foster discussions on integrating sport into urban development strategies.

Key Themes and Discussions

The morning session began with an introduction to the AMELIA project, which focuses on leveraging sport as a catalyst for creating more sustainable, inclusive cities. The project emphasizes community involvement in designing and implementing sport-based solutions, ensuring that public spaces are accessible and engaging for all, particularly youth and marginalized groups.

A detailed presentation on the Sourcebook and Atlas highlighted various best practices in integrating sport into urban policies and public space regeneration. These resources showcase how sport can transform public areas, such as parks, riverbanks, and streets, into vibrant community hubs. The added value of AMELIA lies in its participatory approach, involving local communities in co-creating these solutions, which helps to ensure that the interventions are well-suited to the needs and preferences of the residents.

We invited young designers and sport managers to share their experience with regards to designing innovative solutions for improving sustainability in sport clubs.

The session was based on peer learning, held in synergy with the Dedalus project. It underscored the creativity and fresh perspectives that young designers bring to the table, reinforcing the importance of involving emerging professionals in urban planning processes.

Afternoon Sessions and Working Groups

The afternoon sessions focused on the AMELIA Manifesto, a document outlining principles for sport-based urban regeneration. Participants gathered in working groups to discuss and refine the manifesto, contributing with a diverse range of ideas and perspectives. The collaborative nature of this exercise emphasized on the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in designing effective urban interventions. A round table discussion provided a platform for final reflections on the potential of sport-based solutions for urban regeneration. Key takeaways included the significance of community engagement and the role of sport in fostering social cohesion and well-being in urban environments.
